This has been invaluable when I’m doing research etc. This post is a comparison of GoodNotes vs Notability, and which is the better note taking app for university students. GoodNotes also works with Apple Notes, I can swipe up from a corner of my iPad to take a QuickNote, and it’ll link directly to the GoodNotes page I’m viewing. The outline feature is HUGE and Notability straight up can’t compare. Having said that, GoodNotes is much more useable when it comes to large PDFs and textbooks. I have ADHD and it’s a significant game changer to be able to open the sidebar, see everything I need and still be able to hide everything else. With Notability, just scroll down the side/open up dividers. Unless you already have a note open along the top (which gets crowded and borderline unusable after you open so many notes), you have to leave your note and wander around however many sub-folders you have to switch to another note. That’s a purely personal preference.Īnd something I never considered was the UI, I really like the sidebar on Notability over the design of GoodNotes. But also… I just like the pens/writing experience more. Like, the recording feature on Notability is pretty much why I caved, and it’s a huge reason why it’s my go to app. You’ll probably be like me and find both of them extremely useful in different ways. You can’t really know unless you try them both and compare. Realistically, no one but you can really decide which app will suit you best. I’ll cancel Notability, Apple Notes/GoodNotes should be fine for my needs after graduation. I’d suggest to stay with GoodNotes 5 if you don’t want to upgrade considering it’s an already powerful tool. And even if you hate Notability, you can cancel and only pay the subscription fee once.Īt the end of the day, at least for myself, I’m not going to need such hardcore note taking apps when I’m done school. They had a major update recently and ever since then everything is unbelievably buggy. I’m pretty confident that you won’t hate GoodNotes so much that you’ll regret a one time payment for the rest of your life. Notability is definitely my main note taking app, but GN is more appropriate in certain cases.īasically, my advice to you is to invest in both, especially because GoodNotes is a one time payment, as of now at least. Price: Free version available 2.99 for Essentials Pack 4.99 for Connect Pack 3.99 for PDF Pack. Price New users can purchase the app for the discounted price of 3.99 for a limited time (regularly 8.99), and enjoy the experience on their Mac, iPad, and iPhone for a. They each have their pros and cons, and I find myself using both pretty frequently. Notability syncs with iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, AirDrop, and Email for easy sharing with colleagues and study partners. Honestly, they’re both great note taking apps. Even with the subscription model, I eventually caved and got Notability too ($15/year). But it wasn’t completely perfect, and then Notability made some updates that caught my attention. I felt like GoodNotes was the right choice for me. I joined the subs and read people’s complaints and praises. I wanted to make sure I chose the right one, I read all the reviews and watched all the videos.
